Frequently Asked Questions
Looking for a personal trainer in Naperville who takes your goals, health, and long-term success seriously? Below are answers to the most common questions we hear in Naperville from adults who want to lose weight, build strength, improve mobility, recover from injuries, and stay active for years to come.
Getting Started
Is Stark Fitness right for beginners?
Yes. Starck Fitness is a great fit for beginners. You do not need prior training experience to get started. Our job is to teach you the right way from day one. We focus on the fundamentals that many people never learn, including proper exercise form, healthy shoulder and knee mechanics, dynamic warm-ups, stretching, and how to train effectively without overdoing it. Instead of simply putting you through tough workouts, we help you build a foundation by focusing on:
-
Proper form and range of motion
-
Dynamic warm-ups before exercise
-
Effective cool-downs to help your body recover
-
Sleep, nutrition, hydration, and stress management
-
Sustainable training habits that support long-term success
Many people come to us after trying to do too much on their own. They are working out too hard, too often, and not recovering properly. At Starck Fitness, we take a smarter approach. We help you build better habits step by step so you can move better, feel more energized, and develop the discipline needed to achieve lasting results.
How young can someone start with a personal trainer at Stark Fitness?
We recommend starting in teen years, especially for those interested in free weights, around ages 15 – 17. The priority is learning proper form, rep ranges, and warm‑up habits early to train safely and effectively for life.
Do you have female fitness trainers for ladies?
Yes. We have experienced female trainers, and many of our clients specifically ask to work with a woman. That is completely fine. When you reach out, tell us what you are looking for: female trainer, certain personality, specific goals, or comfort level. We match you with the trainer who fits you best, not just whoever is available. The goal is that you feel comfortable, respected, and taken seriously from day one.
Do you train adults over 40?
Yes. Many of our clients are over 40, even some seniors, and want to stay active, maintain independence, improve mobility, and continue enjoying life without being limited by pain or weakness. Strength training becomes increasingly important as we age, and our programs are designed with long-term health and longevity in mind. Read our Fitness Over 50 blog.
1:1 Personal Training
What makes Starck Fitness different from other personal trainers in Naperville?
At Starck Fitness, personal one-on-one training is our focus. Our goal isn't simply helping you exercise at a gym. It's helping you move better, feel better, and achieve lasting results. Every client receives:
-
Personalized training program
-
1:1 coaching, accountability, and progress assessments
-
Custom program adjustments based on results
We also meet you where you are. We build and adjust your program around injuries, age, gender, stress, and real life, so you can actually stick with it and see progress. On top of that, we are one of the few places where training, physical therapy, and medical support can work together under one roof. The goal is simple: less pain, more strength, and a better life with your family, not just a few hard workouts and a handshake.
How often should I train with a personal trainer?
For most clients, 2 – 3 strength training sessions per week provides an excellent foundation for improving strength, mobility, body composition, and overall health. We'll help determine the right schedule based on your goals, recovery, and lifestyle.
Healthy Weight and Nutrition
Can a personal trainer help me lose weight?
Yes, but successful weight loss involves more than burning calories. Our approach combines strength training (muscle gain), accountability, sustainable habits, and practical nutrition coaching to help clients achieve long-term results. Learn more about weight loss (or gain) program.
Do you help clients gain muscle and healthy weight?
Absolutely! While many people come to us for weight loss, we also help clients gain muscle and improve overall strength. Whether you're naturally thin, struggling to add muscle mass, or simply want a stronger, more athletic physique, we create a personalized plan designed around your goals. Building muscle is about much more than lifting weights. We focus on:
-
Progressive strength training programs
-
Proper exercise technique and form
-
Nutrition strategies that support muscle growth
-
Recovery, sleep, and stress management
-
Consistent habits that produce long-term results
Many people spend years working out without seeing the muscle gains they want because they're following generic programs, eating inconsistently, or not training efficiently. At Starck Fitness, we take the guesswork out of the process and provide expert guidance every step of the way. Our goal is to help you gain quality muscle, increase strength, improve performance, and build a healthier body that lasts for years to come.
Do you provide nutrition coaching?
Yes. We help clients develop realistic nutrition habits that support their goals without relying on extreme diets or unsustainable restrictions. Our coaching often focuses on:
-
Protein intake
-
Meal consistency
-
Recovery nutrition
-
Healthy lifestyle habits

Do you work with GLP-1 clients (Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro)?
Yes. At Starck Fitness, we work with clients from many different backgrounds, including those using GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro as part of their weight loss journey.
While these medications can be highly effective for reducing body weight, maintaining muscle mass, strength, mobility, and long-term health requires the right training and nutrition plan. That's where professional coaching can make a significant difference.
Our approach focuses on:
-
Preserving and building lean muscle during weight loss
-
Strength training to support metabolism and overall health
-
Healthy nutrition habits and adequate protein intake
-
Improving mobility, balance, and functional strength
-
Creating sustainable lifestyle changes that last beyond the medication
Whether you're just starting a GLP-1 medication or have already achieved significant weight loss, we can help you develop a personalized fitness plan that supports your goals and helps you maintain your results for years to come.
As always, we encourage clients to follow the guidance of their physician regarding medications and medical care while we focus on helping them move better, get stronger, and live healthier.
Rehab, Pain, and Mobility
Should I see a physical therapist or a personal trainer?
It depends on what is going on with your body, and often the best answer is both, in the right order. If your injuries are major (constant pain, post-surgery, you cannot get on and off the floor, or basic movements feel unsafe), you should start with a licensed medical professional. At Stark Fitness, that means our on-site doctor and physical therapist, who work with your insurance like any other PT clinic. They evaluate you, treat what needs to be treated, and then clear you for training when it is appropriate.
If your issues are more like tweaks and nagging pains such as a cranky knee, a tight back, or feeling older than you are, then a high-level trainer with a real program can often help you avoid ever needing surgery. That is where we come in.
Our process:
-
Assess what you can actually do today
-
Start with what your body can handle (walk, bike, foam roll, light bands, and so on)
-
Progressive to written programs, not random workouts
-
Constant communication and adjustments based on how you feel
In short:
-
If you are severely injured, start with a physical therapist.
-
If you are functional but in pain, stiff, or deconditioned, a serious trainer with a structured program can be the difference between steady progress and another visit to the surgeon.
At Stark Fitness, we set things up so you do not have to pick the wrong door. We route you to PT first when needed, then into training when your body is ready to move forward.
Can a trainer help with injury rehab?
Yes, but only if it’s done the right way. At Stark Fitness, we start by meeting you exactly where you are. If your injuries are significant, we’ll have you see our on-site doctor and physical therapist first. They work with your insurance just like any other PT clinic, and they’ll tell us when you’re cleared to train and what we should avoid.
If your pain is more in the “tweaks and nagging issues” category, we begin with a thorough 90‑minute assessment. We look at how you move, what you can and can’t do yet, and how your body responds to basic things like walking, biking, light stretching, and foam rolling. From there, we build a custom program, never a generic workout on a whiteboard—that progresses at your pace.
Over time, we continually adjust your plan based on how you feel, what your body is telling us, and what your long‑term goals are (for example, avoiding surgery, getting back to daily activities, or returning to sport). The goal is not just to “work around” the injury, but to help you move better, feel better, and reduce the chances you end up under the knife later.
Can personal training help with back pain, knee pain, or joint discomfort?
Many clients come to us with aches, pains, or movement limitations. Through proper strength training, mobility work, and corrective exercise strategies, we often help clients improve movement quality and reduce discomfort while building confidence and strength.

Why choose Starck Fitness instead of a big-box gym?
Starck Fitness offers a more personalized alternative to crowded big-box gyms. When you work with a personal trainer in Naperville at Starck Fitness, you train in a private, uncrowded environment where the focus is entirely on you and your goals.
Unlike large gyms where equipment may be unavailable and workouts often need to be adjusted, our trainers can follow your personalized fitness program exactly as designed. This allows for more efficient workouts, better coaching, and faster progress.
With private personal training, you'll spend less time waiting for equipment and more time focused on building strength, losing weight, improving mobility, or reaching your specific fitness goals.
If you're looking for one-on-one personal training in Naperville with expert guidance and a customized approach, Starck Fitness provides a level of attention that big-box gyms simply can't match.
Do you offer group workout classes at Stark Fitness?
No. Stark Fitness does not offer large group workout classes. The model is built around one‑on‑one and, at most, very small semi‑private sessions, because anything beyond two people stops being truly customized.
Why don’t you run big group training sessions like other gyms?
In large groups, a single trainer can’t closely watch everyone’s form or tailor exercises to different ages, injuries, and goals. At that point it’s just general fitness “movement” rather than personal training, which increases the risk of pain, plateaus, or wasted effort.
Can Couples or Friends Train Together at Starck Fitness?
Yes, in certain situations. We may occasionally train couples, spouses, friends, or family members together, especially when the focus is on mobility, stability, flexibility, or general fitness. These types of sessions often work well because both individuals can follow a similar training approach.
However, the best results typically come from one-on-one personal training. Every person has different goals, strength levels, movement patterns, injury histories, and fitness needs. What works well for one person may not be appropriate for another. As training becomes more specialized, whether that's building strength, losing weight, improving athletic performance, or recovering from an injury, individualized programming becomes increasingly important.
At Starck Fitness, our specialty is highly customized personal training. If a partner session makes sense for your goals, we're happy to discuss it. But for the highest level of personalization and results, we generally recommend one-on-one coaching.
Policies
What should I wear to my first session?
Wear comfortable workout clothes you can move in easily:
-
Top: T-shirt (short or long sleeve) or other athletic top
-
Bottoms: Workout shorts or athletic pants that don’t restrict movement
-
Shoes: Supportive gym shoes with good traction
Please do not wear flip flops, Crocs, boots, or other non-athletic footwear, there’s not enough support or stability for safe training.
We also ask clients to bring a separate clean pair of gym shoes to change into before entering the fitness center. This helps keep the training environment clean since outdoor dirt and debris stay at the door. Bringing a water bottle is also recommended (there’s a bottle filler available).
