Built around your body, not a template

How We Build Your Weight Loss Program Around You

The Starck Fitness approach to fat-loss training starts with how you move, your physical training experience, and what your body can handle. From there, we build a plan around your limitations, schedule, and goals for losing body fat while keeping muscle.

  • Start with how you move before we load a fat-loss program

  • Aches change the exercise, not whether you train here

  • Form before load. Experience does not skip the assessment

  • Strength is the center. Nutrition supports it. Conditioning only when it helps your plan

  • Two days a week is enough to start

  • The written plan changes when your body or week changes

“If someone says they want to lose weight, I’d say let’s gain muscle, because they’re going to lose body fat.”

Start with a Complimentary Fitness Assessment

Meet 1-on-1 with a Starck Fitness trainer to discuss your fat-loss goal, review your training history, and see how you move. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of your starting point and the next steps for a program built around you.

Your assessment covers:

  • Your goals and schedule: What you want to achieve, your training experience, and when you can consistently train.

  • Your movement: Current strength, balance, mobility, and any injuries or limitations that may affect your workouts.

  • Your body composition: When appropriate, an Evolt scan may help establish baseline estimates of body fat and muscle mass.

  • Your next steps: Guidance on the training approach that fits your body and goals.

Progress beyond the scale

How We Track Body Fat vs. Muscle

Your weight is only part of the picture. We look at body composition, strength, and everyday changes to understand your progress and guide your fitness program.

  • Body fat and muscle: When appropriate, Evolt scans help establish baseline estimates and track changes over time.

  • Strength and movement: We monitor weights, repetitions, technique, and how confidently you move.

  • Everyday progress: We check in on how your clothes fit, your energy, and how consistently you can train.

Your trainer reviews these trends together and adjusts your workouts and coaching as needed, with your fat-loss goal in focus. Not sure you want fat loss vs. muscle gain? See Healthy Weight Coaching.

“The scale usually doesn’t tell the entire story. I prefer to default to how one feels and looks — pants fitting looser, sleeping better, life getting easier.”

— Mike Starck, owner

  • Eat enough to train. Starving is not the method

  • Habits have to fit the week

  • Medical nutrition stays with a dietitian

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to lose weight?

If you want to look and feel better, lose body fat and keep (or build) muscle. That means strength training, enough protein, and habits you can repeat. If the only goal is a smaller number on the scale, eating less will move it — and muscle can leave with it. This program is built for the first version, not a crash cut. More on Healthy Weight Coaching and Nutrition Coaching.

What is the best exercise for weight loss?

There isn’t one best exercise. Walking, a bike, or a treadmill can help a deficit and heart health. They are not the program. Fat loss you can keep is driven by progressive strength training written for your body. Cardio is added when it helps your plan.

Do you just put me on cardio?

No. Strength is the center. Conditioning is extra, not the method.

How do you know it’s fat, not muscle?

We look at session progress, how clothes fit, and body-composition scans at the start and midpoint when we run them. The scale alone cannot tell you which came off.

Is this the same as Healthy Weight Coaching?

No. This is the fat-loss training program. Healthy Weight Coaching explains both directions, lose fat or gain muscle, when you are still deciding.
